Restaurant Bags.com is diverting trash into the creation of reusable carryout bags.

VERNON, CA (August 23, 2008) -- RestaurantBags.com in partnership with Command Packaging Recycling Center is collecting plastic waste directly from businesses and consumers to divert their plastic destined for the trash into the creation of their reusable carryout bags. Marketed under the trade name EncoreTM, these bags satisfy the restaurants' economic needs while helping the environment and U.S. jobs.

Pete Grande, founder of Restaurant Bags.com and Command Packaging believes, “Environmental and economic concerns are not mutually exclusive. Instead of penalizing restaurants and consumers in an already weak economy, Command Packaging and RestaurantBags.com have chosen to look for a more proactive solution. By partnering with local businesses and our customers, we are able to take plastic waste out of the environment, make a good product even more environmentally friendly, and help the local economy.”

EncoreTM recycled plastic bags have become the flagship product of RestaurantBags.com. EncoreTM plastic bags are made with recycled content collected from local businesses and residents. Grande adds, “By collecting plastic locally that would ordinarily be sent to the landfill, we are able to keep the cost of a recycled plastic bag competitive compared to a virgin plastic bag. Our customers now don't have to choose between paying higher prices for takeout bags just to do something good for the environment.”

When asked about the recent anti-plastic legislation, Grande responded, “The green movement is in its infancy. Today there is no definition of what is truly “green”. Once all the data is in, reduction will be the determining factor for product choices. Analysis of the reduction in materials, energy, pollution, water consumption, CO2 emissions, and overall carbon footprint for competing products will all need to be considered. We've extensively studied the impact that various packaging choices have on the environment. We firmly believe that a plastic bag made from high content of recycled plastic that is collected in local markets provides the lowest overall carbon footprint.”

According to Technomic, a leading restaurant market research firm, in today's economic climate environmental concerns are less important to restaurants than when business is strong. In a recent study on carry out bags, consumers ranked preventing leaks, convenience in carrying meals, and having containers lie flat in the bag, as the most important features of take-out bags.

EncoreTM environmental solutions offer bags that are designed to fit most carry out containers to optimize carrying convenience and prevent leaks. RestaurantBags.com offers the most popular carry-out bag styles: AmeritoteTM, Super WaveTM, T-shirt, and Catering Corner carry out bags. All bags are manufactured in the United States, using environmentally friendly colorants and water-based inks. FDA approved for use in restaurants.
