Is your bag imported? China removes tax rebates... Increased prices on imported goods may be felt as China removes their tax rebates in an effort to ease frictions between foreign trade partners. Are imported carry-out bags affected? Now may be the best time to release our dependency on imported products, especially when more environmental and cost-effective U.S. products exist. The Chinese Daily reported on June 20, 2007: “The Chinese government will eliminate or cut tax rebates for more than 2,800 export items from July 1 - in the boldest move yet to rein in the country's exports since it joined the World Trade Organization in 2001." According to the U.S. International Trade Administration, they have taken counter measures against unfair foreign pricing and government subsidies that have adversely affected competing American businesses for years.
